Temporary Exhibition

Summer Exhibition

The exhibition for summer 2024 has ended, but here’s a brief overview.

Philippe Giroux exhibits at the Matamajaw fishing heritage site

The exhibition features a series of works related to water and salmon fishing. The painter discovered fly fishing, salmon fishing, and stream fishing about thirty years ago in the rivers of the Gaspé Peninsula. This direct contact with nature led him to a newfound spirituality, which he has incorporated into his practice. The works that Mr. Giroux is presenting for the exhibition are acrylic paintings. They are created in a realistic, even hyper-realistic, style. Besides scenes related to salmon fishing, the exhibition also showcases paintings inspired by waterfalls, cascades, and streams.

Several large-format pieces will be included in the exhibition. One of them, the painting "A Peaceful Fisherman," is nearly eight feet wide. In May 2023, it won the "Best of Show" award at the international "Green" competition hosted by Grey Cube Gallery. The paintings "Blues Rock," "Parallel Universes," "Hymn to the Beauty of the World," and "Rhapsody in Blue" have also won awards or received mentions in national and international competitions.

About the artist: Philippe Giroux

Philippe Giroux, an Academic Officer at Mondial Art Académia and a signature member of the Figurative Arts Institute, paints in acrylic with smooth applications, creating realistic, even hyper-realistic, canvases. He enjoys painting materials such as water, wood, roots, stone, rock, and the layer of vegetal moss that covers them. "The waters are a part of me, having been around them my entire life. As such, a large portion of my artistic work is inspired by them. Streams and rivers particularly draw me, and I explore them equipped with my camera and fishing rod. Back in the studio, I revisit the photos taken earlier. Most will rest in a file somewhere on the computer. But sometimes, one will spark something within me. It will likely become the foundation for a future project." The artist has a particular fondness for strong contrasts in his work and continuously seeks to master the movement, calmness, or power of currents and the transparency of water.
