Educational Programs

Drawing on the Quebec school curriculum, our educational programs promote a hands-on and engaging approach to the social studies world.

In order to encourage active student participation, each activity emphasizes play, hands-on experiences, and action. We offer two programs for two elementary school cycles.

Program 1
In the footsteps of the First Nations

Target grade level:
2e cycle of primary schools - 3rd and 4th year

Program objectives: Students are led to discover the local landscape and history, the first occupations of the Gaspésie territory, and the development of the Matamajaw Salmon Club. Students then explore the relationships between Iroquois and Algonquian societies, their social, cultural, economic, and territorial organization before the arrival of Europeans.

Program 2
Salmon fishing in the Matapédia


Target grade level:

3rd cycle of primary schools - 5th and 6th year

Program objectives: Introduce the practice of salmon fishing, an activity that marked the history of the Gaspésie region in the 20th century. Students work in teams to develop a journalistic report on salmon fishing and the Museum. They are also encouraged to use their imagination to create a fishing fly.
